Pablo- Class of 2016 "Honestly, [I am most proud about] Black Cobain. That pep-rally was the best experience of my life, and every pep-rally since then has been pathetic because Black Cobain wasn't there. He's not prominent enough, I think. I think there should be like a mural of him hanging somewhere, or more dedication to him in the school. I feel like I [know him]."
Jackson- Class of 2016 “You know, I don’t mind [school lunches]. A lot of people say they’re really bad, but I enjoy them. I have a low standard, I guess, for what tastes good… That being said, I enjoy school lunches. I don’t buy them, but every now and then I have a bite, and they’re usually pretty tasty, and they smell good all the time. [My favorite food I’ve had was] probably the chicken tenders, and the cheeseburgers are all right. A lot of people don’t like the cheeseburgers– I don’t mind them. [Of my favorite parts of West Potomac], the lunches themselves are probably maybe like Top 15. I’d say Top 2 would be the social atmosphere at West Potomac… it is usually pretty good. Number 2 would be those 3 or 4 good teachers you have every year who really, you know, inspire passion in you to learn. If I were to take the entire teaching staff, and rank it on a scale of 1-10, I’d give it like a 6 ½? And that’s factoring in the teachers who really give a lot and the teachers who are really authoritarian and less inspiring. I think it’s fair. I think academically, I don’t have any qualms over my (high school) choices. Socially, there are definitely things I would change, just ‘cause with age comes wisdom, and you can look back and say ‘wow that was ridiculous’ or ‘wow that was a bad decision.’ So, if you could do [high school] over again… you could just skip that period of trial-and-error of inhibition, and come out of your shell more quickly and really enjoy the experience more and skip the whole period of lackluster social interaction.”
Vera- Class of 2017 “The most exciting thing that has happened to me this week was feeling confident about all the tests I had taken– all my AP tests– because I studied so hard on them. So I just am happy that I got through all of them. I studied alone, because when I study with friends I get distracted, so I went home and I just read everything over and over and made sure I was ready. I just wish teachers would be mindful of [when AP testing happens] and not push projects on top of that. Because we do have to study for them and I feel like some teachers are like ‘oh you have AP testing, also here’s five projects’ and it’s just really stressful. I think Junior [year] is the most stressful and the most exciting, because you’re like ready to be a senior but you also have to make sure you’re *ready* to be a senior. This is a great community, I really do like this school, even though I hate waking up in the morning and coming. It’s a great school, teachers are really supportive and respectful and they push us really hard to get us where we need to be, so I’m grateful.”
