Do you know what’s going on in Afghanistan right now? Let’s talk about women in the United States and Afghanistan.
In the United States women have rights, many gained since the suffrage movement in the 1920’s and the civil rights movement in the 1960s, but in Afghanistan women’s rights are not respected at all, and girls and women are even losing their rights to an education.
When the United States pulled its military support out of Afghanistan, one of the first political acts of the Taliban in Afghanistan was to forbid girls from attending secondary schools. Since 2022, women in Afghanistan are no longer allowed to study. Without education, these girls face an even higher risk of being exploited, maltreated, or married off early. Their chances of learning or finding a good job later disappear.
All girls should be allowed to go to school and universities, and all women should be allowed to return to their work.
For now, I wish for the women of my land to be patient and not disappointed. I hope they know that there are still people who want them to be free again.
