For countless West Po students May doesn’t symbolize a time of relaxation, instead May means hours of studying and stress for AP exams. While The Wire staff prep for the upcoming paper they also have spent numerous hours prepping for their various AP exams.
Take practice tests:
“I recommend people to look at released online FRQs to see what the style of the exam will look like,” said Lucy Wilson, Environmental Editor.
“In Khan Academy and AP Classroom I just did a ton of practice tests,” said Frazier O’Leary, reporter. Frazier then recommended reflecting on the questions answered incorrectly to better understand the material.
Watch review videos:
Just like the majority of high schoolers taking APs The Wire staff swears by using review videos to prep. Some of the staff’s favorites are Heimler for history APs ranging from AP World to AP Gov. For AP Bio our staff recommends watching Sciencemusicvideos. Our staff also recommends watching Professor Dave Explains for math AP’s and AP Chemistry
Make sure you understand the College Board system:
Before your exam make sure you understand what units are weighted the most on the test. Also, you should check how much each individual section of the test is weighted and how much time you have for each section. For example, the AP World MCQ contains 55 questions and you will receive 55 minutes to complete these questions. It’s also important to understand the rubric for the writing portions of your exam.
Just start studying:
Lastly, The Wire staff recommends that students begin studying at least one to two weeks before their exam. At the end of the day, as helpful as tips can be, students need to actually put in time and effort to pass their exam.
