West Potomac High School students have begun the testing season and will be taking Standards of Learning (SOL), Advanced Placement (AP), and final Exams, from April 21 through June 10, 2025.
On major SOL testing days (April 29, May 12, and May 15), the following modified schedule will be in effect:
8:10 – 8:20 a.m.: Breakfast
8:20 – 11:15 a.m.: Announcements and Testing
11:25 – 1:21 p.m.: Regular Lunch
1:31 – 2:55 p.m.: Block 3
Core subject SOL testing will take place on the following dates:
April 29: Reading SOL (722 students) – Periods 2, 6, 8
May 12: Science SOL (847 students) – Periods 1, 5, 7
May 15: Math SOL (858 students) – Periods 4, 6, 8
Make-up sessions and retakes are scheduled for May 27-30 in the Auxiliary Gym, Library Lab, and Rooms 321 and 604.
AP testing will run from May 5-16, featuring a wide range of subjects including:
May 5: Biology, European History, and Microeconomics
May 6: Chemistry, Human Geography, and Government
May 7: Literature, Comparative Government, and Computer Science A
May 8: African American Studies, Statistics, and World History
May 9: U.S. History and Macroeconomics
Testing locations will primarily utilize the Library Lab, Room 321, and Room 604, with additional classroom spaces allocated for larger testing groups. Senior activities and exams are scheduled for late May, culminating in graduation on June 2 at 9:30 a.m. at EagleBank arena.
“I think I can pass if I try my best, but some of the questions are hard. Sitting in class for three hours when we’re not testing feels pointless—they should let us do something else.” Kevin Benitez, freshman, said.
The academic year will conclude with underclass exams from June 5-10, with half-day dismissals at 11:30 a.m.. Make-up sessions and retakes have been scheduled throughout the testing period to ensure all students have the opportunity to complete their assessments.
