On May 8th, 2025, West Potomac Sophomores will take the AP World History exam, the first AP exam many of them have ever taken. The exam will start at 12:00pm and students will have three and a half hours to complete the whole exam.
“I am very nervous because I feel like I’m either gonna do really well, or absolutely bomb the entire thing,” Akram Arif, sophomore, AP World student said.
The first section consists of multiple choice and three short answer questions (SAQ). There are 55 multiple choice questions that must be completed in 55 minutes, and is 40% of the final score. Then there are three short answer questions, which gives 40 minutes to complete, and will count for 20% of the final score.
The next section is the document-based question which students will be given 60 minutes to work on and it will count for 25% of the final score. The DBQ can’t test you on units one or two (1200-1450). That leaves it to be the chance for getting unit three through nine. The last section of the test is the long essay question (LEQ), which students will have 40 minutes to complete and it will count for 15% of the final score.
Jovanny Felix Luna, sophomore, AP World student says “I love history, but this test feels like a kick in the face. It’s a lot of work, but I made a giant timeline so I’ll be fine.”
