Ten West Potomac students will take their extraordinary talent to the next level as they have committee to their college’s teams.

Grant Maloney – Jacksonville University; Boys Lacrosse
Austin Dean – Virginia Tech; Baseball
Christian Martinez-Ortiz’s – Marymount University; Boys Soccer
Jaden Burnett-Miller – Towson; Dance
Darius Burkhardt-Childs – Hudson Valley College; Football
Ethen Mack-Moore – Hudson Valley College; Football
Genevieve Cummings – VMI; Girls Track
“I think my high school coach, Coach Joe, has really helped me develop as a player,” Olivia Jones said.
Jill Humphries, senior, committed to play soccer on June 15 her junior year. Humphries has played soccer since she was 5 years old, making the varsity soccer team her freshman year as a goalie, and she will be taking her outstanding goalie skills to Boston University.
“For next year, I hope to help contribute to winning the conference championship again, and continue to get better while having fun with my teammates,” she said.
Senior Austin Dean is heading to Virginia Tech to play baseball. His commitment showcases his talent and hard work on the field. Dean has been playing baseball since he was 5 years old. Austin committed early his freshman year and started an early recruiting process in middle school.
“At VT my goal is to eventually win a National Championship, but I guess, for myself, to get the opportunity to play professionally,” he said.
Liam Cardman, senior, will play baseball at Catholic University. His dedication and skills have earned him this opportunity to continue his baseball career at the next level. He will major in Business. Cardman’s goal is to continue to grow as a player.
“The recruiting process for me was hard and time consuming, but it was worth the effort. Playing baseball for 14 years and being able to play at the next level is worth the process,” he said.
