The homecoming game against the Hayfield Hawks will be taking place this Friday at 7:30, sparking excitement through the hallways hoping for a win after a tough loss against Fairfax just last week. The West Potomac football team hasn’t had the greatest start of the season, having a record of 1-3 as of now. A win against the Hayfield Hawks could change the momentum of their whole season.
Hayfield just last year was discovered to have cheated their way to victory achieving a 10-0 season, but at what cost? Allegations formed after text messages surfaced exchanged by the school director and head coach revealing their illegal recruiting scandal. Many of the head team coach’s former players came and followed him to Hayfield, violating the regulations of VHSL. They were both forced to resign and Hayfield was faced with a two year ban from the league. However, the two year ban was revoked and they were allowed to play this season. Now, with most of their star players having graduated the previous year, how will our Wolverines face off against the Hawks.
Jack Coulter, a varsity field goal kicker, as well as a linebacker said, “Hayfield is a totally different team than last year, I think we have a solid chance of blowing them out”.
Confidence seems to be high going into this game and the players are electric. Many students at our school believe this could be a blowout for West Po, which is a perfect way to kick off homecoming.
Sebastian Zornes, a corner back for our varsity team said, “The defense is prepared, we’ve studied the film, practiced hard, and we’re ready to get the dub”.
This will definitely be an exciting game to watch so students should make it a priority to attend and support your West Po Wolverines. Make sure to come in neon as the theme this Friday is neon out. We want our stadium to light up the night as our athletes play their hearts out on the field. So show up at home, at 7:30 sharp, (can’t miss any of the action) in neon and experience the homecoming game of your lives.
