Advisory at West Po has looked different this year than it has previously. Notably, our school’s administration collectively decided upon adding clubs into advisory’s rotating schedule.
“I believe that was just the discussion between administrators and the activities office, just thinking about ways we could utilize that time during the school day and try to get students involved with things during the school day. Kids are very busy outside of school,” Ms. Annie Corbelli, club specialist said.
Administration seemed to be aware of how busy students can get after school. They wanted to make sure that students had the opportunity to attend club meetings during a time when otherwise they wouldn’t.
Our administration’s top priority is their students, and they want to make sure that they get all the opportunities that they can get.
“I think that it’s great, especially for students that may have really busy after school schedules and can’t necessarily stay after school, especially if they’re in athletics and they have to go to athletic meetings,” Ms. Amy Wheeler, yarn club sponsor said.
On Sept. 17, students and club sponsors got the opportunity to attend their very first in-school club meetings, and it was deemed a success by many.
“I think that it was very effective. We got a lot done in a short period of time, and I’m so appreciative of the fact that administration has chosen to allow us this time,” Ms. Wheeler said.
“We started small with the shift, and then hopefully, I think things went well. So, I think we’re going to continue it,” Ms. Corbelli reiterated.
The club rotation will continue into the month of October, giving students the opportunity to meet again on the 23rd. It will be the perfect chance for students to attend one of the various clubs that our school has to offer.
