Wolverines Lose Close Match Against Lake Braddock, 24-21
There was a certain excitement in the air Friday night when the undefeated West Potomac Wolverines took on the Lake Braddock Bruins at the Wolverines’ home turf. The home team was off to a great start of the season with an undefeated run under the leadership of Jeremiah Ross as his second year in the position of head coach.
“We’ve bought into the system that coach Ross has, attitude, effort, and physicality,” says lineman Carter Engvall, when asked on how the team has been preparing to face Lake Braddock. “We’re really just working hard in the weight room and working hard in the field, and getting to where we need to be,” he concluded.
However it didn’t seem to be enough when Lake Braddock emerged victorious with a final score of 21-24. After taking a field goal in the second quarter the Bruins managed to catch up to the Wolverines in touchdowns and eventually steal the win. However the Wolverines did come close to scoring in the 4th quarter, an incomplete pass into the end zone on the 4th down caused by the Bruins’ noteworthy defense made the chances of a last minute comeback very slim. The Bruins then managed to run the clock down and walk away victorious.
Despite the disappointing loss of the Wolverines, the game was featured on WUSA9 news throughout the night. Spotlights on quarterback and captain Mark Ellis and running back Justine Annan were shown on the 11 pm news.
The Bruins remain undefeated as the Wolverines begin preparation for next week’s game against the Woodson Cavaliers who are 1-3 this season. The game will be on Friday, October 2nd, at 7:30. It will be a West Potomac away game at Woodson High School in Fairfax, VA.
