It’s time for West Potomac Homecoming Spirit Week, Powder Puff football game, the Homecoming football game, Homecoming Court, and more all culminating with the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, September 29th.

Student Government Association (SGA), otherwise called Leadership, is in charge of preparing for the events and themes for the events.

Homecoming means something different for everyone, whether it’s the returning alumni, being with friends, or participating in spirit week. For one of the Senior SGA officers Maddy Wood, “Homecoming is a time when everyone at the whole school can come together and have a good time and dress up all pretty and just enjoy themselves.” Another Senior SGA officer, Sib Sadlier said, ”It’s a time for everyone to just let loose and it’s stress free.”

Developing a Theme

The slogan for this year’s Homecoming dance is “Don’t Worry Be Hippie.” Sadlier talks about how Leadership prepares for spirit weeks and the Homecoming theme months in advance.“There is a poll to pick the theme at the end of the year. We have committees and each committee comes up with a handful of ideas and we all vote on which ones and eventually narrow it down to a couple. The spirit week committee decides the spirit days based on the theme.”

Homecoming has something that everyone can enjoy, and most students have a favorite part of the experience. The events this year include the Homecoming football game at 7 o’clock against Centreville, the pre-game tailgate, spirit week, the Powder Puff football game, and Homecoming court. “I like the Powder puff game. I like to see the competitiveness between the juniors and the seniors”, Wood answered about her favorite homecoming week event.

Plans for the events

Tickets for Homecoming will be sold during all lunches starting Friday, September 21, and cost $20. Spirit Week starts on Monday, September 24 and goes all week long until the Homecoming football game, filled with days like Denim day, and Flower Power.

Whether you plan on attending the dance or not, the week leading up to it will be a school-wide time to dress up, be goofy, and just have fun.

Monday 9/24: Denim day

Tuesday 9/25: Seniors and Freshman = Hippies, Sophomores and Juniors = Rockers

Powderpuff – at Jeffrey Dietz Stadium 7:00pm

Wednesday 9/26: Decades day

Homecoming Court – nominations Wednesday – Friday during lunches

Thursday 9/27: Flower Power

Friday 9/28: Tie Dye

Pep Rally – in school

Tailgate – before football game 4:30-6:30

Football game – Home vs Centreville at Jeffrey Dietz Stadium 7:00pm

Class Cup – Rockers vs Hippies, all week long

Saturday 9/29: Homecoming Dance – 8:00pm-12:00 midnight
