West Po Boys Basketball Lies a Win Away From States
The West Potomac Wolverines Boys Basketball team, who entered the postseason this month as the fourth seed in their district–let alone region–are now a win away from the program’s fourth state tournament berth in history. Following a district championship win over South County on Friday, the destiny-laden run continued Tuesday with the Wolverines overcoming an 18 point deficit in the third quarter to defeat and eliminate conference rival Woodson, the team’s fourth win of four games against the Cavaliers–by a combined six points.
As mentioned before, with a win tonight the ‘rines punch a ticket to the state tournament and advance to the Occoquan Regional Championship, where they would board a crash course to likely meet the defending state champion Hayfield Hawks, led this year by former Wolverine guard Donovan Bass-Briscoe who transferred last summer. It’s hard to think up a better script leading up to the potential Saturday night matchup, but both teams lie one home win away from fruition. Tip-off for tonight’s regional semi is set for 6:30 PM at the Wolverdome, win or go home.
