Student-athletes are encouraged to join and try out for winter sports, but all athletes should turn in their physical forms. Here is a look at some of the sports that are hosting tryouts.
Cheer
Coach Janay Campbell is holding tryouts from 5-7 p.m. Nov. 6-8. Coach Campbell is looking for a consistent, coach-able, and positive athlete.
Girls Basketball
Coach Brian Colligan is holding tryouts for varsity, junior varsity, and the freshman team on Nov 6, 7, and 8. He is looking for athletes with skill, attitude, and work ethic. If players have questions, stop by Springbank, Room 507.
Rifle
Coach Scott Allen is holding tryouts from 7-9 p.m. Nov. 6-8 in the JROTC Room 135. He is looking for people who can follow steps and set their goals. Those who are interested or need more information can look at www.WestPotomacRifle.com.
Swim and dive
Coach Dylan Keightly is holding tryouts 3:35-4:35 p.m. Nov 6-9 at George Washington REC center. The team is looking for athletes willing to work hard and have fun.
Varsity boys basketball
Coach David Houston is holding tryouts at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 6. Coach Houston wants toughness, coachable, a good defender, good basketball IQ, and a great teammate. Boys basketball is back-to-back Patriot District champions, and coach Houston is looking for people who can continue that.
Wrestling team
The West Potomac wrestling team does not have tryouts; they want everyone to come and give the sport a try. Coach Miguel Arroyo is looking for coachable student-athletes that are willing to learn. He is looking for athletes who prioritize their education first and are ready to get to work when practice starts.
