After another exciting action packed year of college football two teams will play for the right to call themselves national champions tonight. These two teams, the Washington Huskies and Michigan Wolverines, have both won what seems like countless games against several different quality opponents and have more than earned the right to compete in this game.
The keys to winning are how well can Washington stop the run and how well can Michigan stop the pass. Look for Tuli Letuligasenoa in the middle of the Washington defensive line trying to impact Michigan’s run first offensive gameplan. If he and other defensive lineman like Bralen Trice can prevent big running plays by Blake Corum and Donavan Edwards and long drives then that will eventually force Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy and the Michigan offense into obvious passing downs where J.J. McCarthy has struggled to make big throws the whole year despite being a more than competent quarterback.
For the Michigan defense, if they can’t stop the pass then it will be a long night. Washington has three of the best receiving threats in the country with Rome Odunze, Jalen McMillan, and Ja’lynn Polk in addition to one of the best quarterbacks in the country, Michael Penix Jr. Experienced defensive backs like Mike Sainristil and Will Johnson will need to play like they have all year and maybe a little bit better in order to stop Washington offense from flying up and down the field like they are normally used to.
My Prediction: The first half will be relatively low scoring with both teams getting a touchdown each. In the second half each team will start to find themselves a little bit on offense as J.J McCarthy and Michael Penix both start to make some plays and maybe Blake Corum scores a touchdown. Late in the game, Penix will throw a touchdown pass to Rome Odunze which will ultimately seal the win for Washington. Final Score: Washington 35 Michigan 24
