Janet Babic has been at West Potomac High School for six years; she came from Hayfield High School in 2018. At Hayfield Mrs. Babic taught all kinds of history from world history to US history. In addition to history, she also taught the leadership class. She started the year as a school based technology specialist here at West Po and has now become an administrative principal over English.
Mrs. Babic is inspired by students. Mrs. Babic loves that “students always find a way for a new start.”
As an alumna of Penn State, she did “not plan on becoming a teacher” while at Penn State. Instead she wanted to become a lawyer and studied international politics for her undergraduate degree.
After Penn State, Mrs. Babic carried on with her education and went to George Washington University. At GWU, Mrs. Babic got her masters in curriculum and instruction, and she also has a degree from George Mason University in leadership.
Mrs. Babic is “not a morning person” because “everything is rushed.” She would rather “stay up late at night answering emails” than do it in the morning. Her favorite part of the day is “anything after 1st period.”
Mrs. Babic said that she had a “hard time” using the information she learned in high school and applying it to real life and that teaching an academy class would be fun. “There is so much real life application,” she said.
If Mrs. Babic didn’t work at West Po, she would want to work at a jewelry store. After she retires she said it would be nice to play with jewelry, and she would also love to talk to people about the jewelry.
“People who come in to look at jewelry are happy and they are feeling good about things,” Mrs. Babic said.
Mrs. Babic would want to have a job that has something to do with people and make them feel good. She also expressed interest in working at a hair salon.
“I wouldn’t do the hair but I would work at the front desk or maybe wash the hair,” Mrs. Babic said.
Mrs. Babic said she is a big Penn State fan. When walking into her office her Penn State signs are hard to miss.
“I love my job, I really do,” Mrs. Babic said. “I think it’s fun because everyday is different and there is always a new thing to figure out.”
