Ms. Veltman has been teaching at West Potomac Highschool for 16 years as a Spanish teacher. “My favorite part about the school is that the world languages department has remained fairly consistent with the same teachers staying so we have a very good relationship and I never want to leave,” she says.
Her mother is from Argentina, so she grew up speaking Spanish often. Ms. Veltman says she always knew she wanted to pursue teaching. “I have always naturally been a teacher. I have been teaching since I was quite young and have been very good at it.” If Ms. Veltman were to have a different career she would choose working with wild animals. Around her room she has multiple pictures of her holding baby tigers along with many other animals.
Although Spanish is the only subject she’s teaching at West Po, she has previously taught music and private violin lessons. She has degrees from both Southern Methodist University and George Mason University
Ms. Veltman loves building relationships and helping her students learn.“I try to keep them motivated by keeping myself motivated and energized and positive and caring.”
If there is anything Ms. Veltman wants to tell us, she says to take advantage of what you are given. “Please take advantage of the free education you are provided and after that nothing is free.”
