For Olivia and Jack Hatcher, volleyball is more than just a sport— it’s a mutual passion that has strengthened their sibling bond both on and off the hardwood.
Olivia, who has started playing volleyball since the 4th grade, first introduced Jack to the game after he struggled to find a sport that he truly enjoyed. “I convinced Jack to start playing after he didn’t find a true passion for any other sport he had tried, and he picked it up right away,” Olivia said in a recent exchange.
Since then, volleyball has become a crucial part of their relationship. Whether they’re practicing together or cheering each other on, it’s given them something to bond over. “The best part about Jack playing volleyball is that we always have something to bond over,” Olivia said. “We can share many of the highs and lows of our volleyball experiences in common.”
For Jack, playing alongside his sister has been a source of motivation and inspiration. “It’s really motivating to see another person in my life who is passionate like I am,” Jack said.
Olivia added that having a sibling who plays the same sport pushes her to improve herself, “Jack really does inspire me to work hard in volleyball, so he definitely has helped me improve.”
Nonetheless, their busy schedules often mean they don’t get to see each other play their matches. Both Olivia and Jack play club , their seasons often coincide, making it hard for them to attend each other’s games. “I’ve only been able to go to two of his games this season because our games always overlap with each other,” Olivia explained.
Despite the challenges of their schedules, the sibling duo stay close through their mutual love for volleyball. Whether They’re working on their skills together or supporting each other from a distance, Olivia and Jack’s connection through the sport continues to be a powerful force in their lives.
As the volleyball season goes on, it’s clear that the sport has not only helped them grow as athletes but also helped their bond as siblings. A story of hard work, inspiration, and sibling bonding.
