On October 31st, Puffs came to the West Potomac. In doing so Puffs brings a hilarious story of unlikely heroes and community to West Po. Puffs follows the story of three Hufflepuff’s and their lives while they try to survive seven increasingly eventful years at a certain school of magic.
Based on J.K. Rowling’s beloved world-renowned book series Harry Potter, Puffs approaches the magic of Hogwarts from a fun and exciting new perspective. Puffs helps to showcase the community and strength you can create by celebrating people’s differences. The director of Puffs Mr. Cruz says that Puffs is a story of, “The power of unity and acknowledging and celebrating failures as a road to success.”
Student tickets cost $10 while adult tickets cost $15. Tickets may be purchased online here. The 1 p.m. showing of Puff’s on November 9th will be followed by a Puppet-Making workshop.
Puffs uses whimsical lighting and shadow puppetry to replace normal set components including set changes, location changes, and set pieces bringing much of the childlike joy of a story like Puffs to life. The shadow puppetry plays into the playful and comical joy that the audience experiences throughout the play. The production of Puffs aims to emulate the creativity of a child exploring and creating new worlds using their imagination and the whimsical feeling that goes along with it.
A show like Puffs benefits greatly from being a High School production as the show simulates this deeply relatable feeling of being outcasted but viewing this feeling in a positive sense which brings a playful childlike charm to an inspiring play. Puffs is a show that greatly benefits from the character and humor of its crew and actors who spread a feeling of hope and elation through their performances which bring a unique charm and character to a show that will have you leaving West Po feeling joyous and uplifted.
