Instead of being stuck with 1,000 Chick-Fil-A sandwiches and enough pizza for a playoff crowd, West Po’s home playoff football game on November 15th was suddenly canceled due to Hayfield being allowed back into the playoffs. Luckily, the West Potomac Band Boosters were still able to sell all of their concessions. With the game canceled, there was tons of uneaten food that was bought by the band, and if it wasn’t purchased, it would have been a huge hit to their budget.
The band needed a plan to sell out their food, so they decided to split the sandwiches into two different locations. Half of them stayed at the West Po concession stands, and the other half went to Waynewood pool. The band announced on all of their social media platforms that they would be selling the sandwiches at a discounted price of six dollars at both locations in hopes for people to buy more sandwiches. The concessions started selling at five twenty and the pizza was sold out by five forty five; it wasn’t until six o’clock that the chicken sandwiches were being sold.
“We decided to sell the food at both locations because we were afraid we wouldn’t be able to sell out,” said Kirsten Luescher, band booster “The good news was we were able to sell the sandwiches fairly quickly at the concession stand. We only sold chicken sandwiches from Chick-Fil-A at six o’clock and that was sold out in around 20 minutes.”
Students were very concerned because there would have been a loss of money which could have led to the band not having enough money for getting instruments fixed, buying royalties for music, and going to competitions.
“It’s a great thing that we actually sold out on them, because we had spent almost 2,000 dollars on the concessions and had to rush to Waynewood pool,” Lachlan Madar, Sophomore tenor drums player said.
The band is very thankful for the West Po community coming out to help them sell all of this food after posting on multiple social media platforms. What was seeming to be a huge problem worked out in the end.
Kirsten Luescher said “I want to share what an amazing job the greater community did in helping us get the word out. We posted on Instagram, X, and all of our other social media. I 100% believe we sold this because of the community jumping in to support us, and that means a lot.”
