Mr. Michael Scott Landis, world history geography teacher. He has been teaching at West Po for 5 years but he has been teaching for 21 years in total. Every day he wakes up he has the drive of enjoying history and sharing his love for it.
He decided to start teaching because he was exposed to helping kids while he attended his elementary school. Mr. Landis enjoys helping young adult students and making sure they improve their skills. He believes that because he lives in the area of west po he should help his community.
“I think it’s important to work and live in the same community, and then you can help people that you live near, so you’re also improving your community and working at it.” Mr. Landis has a real passion for helping the community and the kids at his community’s school.
Even though Mr. Landis works here at West Potomac High School he was born and raised in Central PA Lock Haven Pennsylvania. In Central PA Lock Haven he grew up on a farm. Mr. Landis got to grow up and enjoy the farm lifestyle for a little while.
“I spent nine years of my life there on a farm, and then moved to Bucks county, where I grew up most of my time outside of Philadelphia.” He grew up about 45 minutes away from Philadelphia, so he got to live the suburban life and the city life at the same time. Mr Landis got the best of both worlds when it came to calm and suburban life, and the rowdy city life.
Mr. Landis would love a chance to get out of here and visit all around Europe, and all the ancient cities. Since Mr. Landis is a history teacher; it makes a lot of sense that his dream vacation would be to visit ancient Greece and Rome.
“I guess I’d have to say traveling Europe, some of the ancient sites like Greece and Italy.” He wants to visit all the ancient sites of Greece and explore all around. Mr. Landis would also like to visit ancient Rome because both Greece and Rome have thick histories.
Mr. Landis loves to travel the world but he doesn’t like movies that distort history and the past. He thinks that movies put a twist on all the events that lead up to the present day, but Mr. Landis’ favorite movie is True Grit if he had to choose a movie.
“So I like it because it doesn’t paint goodies and baddies.” Mr. Landis likes the movie True Grit because it stays as accurate and does not twist the past as much as a movie can. He thinks it’s cool that the director made the main character complicated and not the perfect human.
