On February 9th, 2025, The Philadelphia Eagles won their second super bowl in franchise history, beating The Kansas City Chiefs 40-22. The Eagles came into the game with a 17-2 record on the year, including the playoffs, and were faced up against the two-time defending super bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs were looking to make history, as the first team in NFL history to win three Super Bowls in a row.
The game started off slowly, with the Eagles first drive ending in a punt, following a penalty. Kansas City went three and out on their next drive, Philly got the ball back and marched down the field for a touchdown to go up 7-0. The Chiefs struggled again on their next drive, and punted the ball back to the Eagles. Jalen Hurts threw an interception, giving the Chiefs some momentum, which they quickly squandered, and punted again for the third time thus far into the game. The Eagles were able to march down the field to get a field goal, and then the tide turned in the Eagles favor permanently, with a Cooper DeJean pick six off of Patrick Mahomes. The score was now 17-0, and the Chiefs desperately needed to score on their next drive, and as expected, they punted yet again. This may have been the fatal blow for Kansas City, the Eagles quickly scored another touchdown, and they led 24-0 at halftime.
Kansas City now had their chance to make a dent in the Eagles lead, with the Chiefs getting the ball first after the half, they punted for the fifth time in the game. The Eagles got a field goal, and led 27-0, but the nail in the coffin came after a failed fourth-down conversion for the Chiefs, and Jalen Hurts threw a 47 yard touchdown to AJ Brown, giving the Eagles a 34-0 lead with 2:42 left in the third quarter. The Chiefs were finally able to muster up a touchdown, but were unable to convert a two-point conversion. The Eagles got a field goal with their next drive, and Patrick Mahomes fumbled, setting the Eagles up with good field position, which then converted another field goal, the score was now 40-6. The Chiefs scored two more touchdowns and a pair of two point conversions, but it didn’t matter, The Eagles were back on the mountain top, and Super Bowl champions for the second time in franchise history.
