On March 4th, 2025, The West Potomac Girls Basketball team beat Langley High School 48-37 in the VHSL Quarterfinals. This was the first time that the Girls team has ever won a game in the state tournament. They will take on Osbourn Park at 6:00 pm on March 7th.
West Po trailed most of the game, and was down 11 points at the end of the first quarter, and found themselves trailing 28-13 at the half. In a dramatic turn of events West Po rallied in the third quarter, and stunned Langley to take a 36-31 lead. They held onto the lead for the rest of the game, and wound up winning 48-37, in an improbable comeback. West Po’s highest scorers were Olivia Jones, with 21 points, as well as Lina Hashimi, who scored 12 points.
With West Po’s win, they ended Langley’s 14-game winning streak, and improved their record to 25-4 on the season. Their next opponent, Osbourn Park, is riding off of a 16 game winning streak, something West Potomac is certainly looking to end on Friday. Whoever wins that game will play in the Class Six State Finals, and will face either Robinson or Manchester for the coveted prize of becoming State Champions on March 15th.
