The rock musical “Little Shop of Horrors” is coming to the Kogelman Theatre as The Beyond The Page Theatre Company’s fall production, starting Nov. 6. The show will features two different performing casts, one with younger actors, the other with older ones.

Despite the difficulties in coordinating two different casts, director Philip Lee Clark says “the show] is coming along smoothly.” Clark indicated that while it was harder producing and directing the show with two casts, he believes it will be better for the Company in the long run.

Performing in shows offers different things to different students. “[Theatre] is something to look forward to after school” said ninth grader Joe Hickey. Other students have said it is a great way to make new friends or even escape reality, if only for a couple of hours.

“Little Shop of Horrors” tells the story of Seymour (played by David Jarzen and Aubrey Blount), a lonely worker at a plant shop ran by Mr. Mushnik, when he finds a strange plant. This plant brings him closer to his lifelong crush, Audrey (played by Nikki Amico and Sarah Lore), who Seymour names the plant after, only to find that the plant is not all it seems to be.

In order to make the show unique, Clark has added his own personal twist. “You will be able to see the voice of the plant” said Clark. Traditionally, the voice of the plant comes from offstage, but in this production, the actors will be painted green and remain on stage through the entire show.

Productions in previous years have won acclaim and and many awards for The Beyond the Page Theatre Troupe, and even a place in an international performing arts gathering, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. The Festival is the largest performing arts gathering in the world, with over 49,000 performances there last year. The Beyond the Page Theatre Troupe will travel to the Festival to perform “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” a new musical about some “very interesting spelling bee contestants.”

Dates and times for “Little Shop of Horrors” are: November 6,13,14, and 15 at 7 p.m. (older cast), and November 8 at 2 p.m. and 7 pm, and November 9 and 15 at 2 p.m. (younger cast).
