After Hurricane Helene finally weakened, a new hurricane, Hurricane Milton, has already hit the coast of Florida. Milton is currently a category 4 hurricane, but is likely to reach category 5, as it continues to grow in size. With wind speeds of 145 mph, Milton could bring catastrophic damages to Florida.
The National Hurricane Center claims, “It [Hurricane Milton] would be a major and extremely dangerous storm when its center makes landfall late Wednesday.”
Heavy rains and even tornadoes are anticipated to form in Southern Florida, making buildings susceptible to flooding and other damages.
Many residents in Florida have already been evacuated, specifically in Tampa Bay, Sarasota, and Fort Myers. As millions of people are ordered to leave their homes, hotels, plane tickets, and even gas have raised in price and stock of many essential goods have lowered.
Hurricane Milton hit Florida’s coast with winds over 100 mph, which created many tornadoes around Florida. Although Tampa narrowly avoided the devastation of a direct hit, the storm’s next target is Florida’s Gulf course, where there are many of Florida’s most populous areas such as St. Petersburg and Sarasota.
Many buildings are without power in Florida, including homes and businesses. Currently Milton has knocked power out of millions of homes in Florida. The storm has ruined countless homes and displaced hundreds of Florida residents. Over 340 animals and people have been saved from the devastation caused by Milton.
Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, held a briefing regarding Hurricane Milton earlier today.
“We are embracing and are prepared to receive a major hit. Refacing this with the seriousness it deserves, but also with the determination we will get through this,” he spoke.
