SGA Holiday Spirit Week Is A Success

West Potomac students finished off their final week before winter break with a holiday themed spirit week. Students were able to show their school pride by coming in their comfiest clothes, warmest flannel, cheeriest holiday get-ups, ugliest sweaters and brightest outfits to bring in the New Year.

Students may have noted that we’ve had several spirit weeks so far this year, more than in past years.

“We have done more this year,” says junior and executive SGA board member Peter Skudlarek. “I think it’s a good thing. It’s been a huge success, with a really awesome turn out.”

The SGA is a student run organization, so spirit days may vary from year to year, along with how often they occur.

“The students choose what they want to do,” explains leadership teacher Nicole Borghard.

Members of the SGA think the kick off to winter break was a great success, and they were able to divulge some possible plans for upcoming spirit weeks.

“Well, we don’t really have a lot in the works right now, with winter break coming up,” says Skudlarek, “but I had an idea for ‘First Fridays’ where the first Friday of every month has a different trend or theme represented.”
If any students want to make sure they always know about upcoming spirit days, there’s a plethora of options ready. The SGA announces their upcoming spirit days with a morning announcement on the broadcast news, along with posters hung up all over the school. Students may also check the SGA’s Twitter, where art by senior Nayibe Nassar is featured to promote any upcoming Spirit Days.
