Olivia Rodrigo announced her third album, “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,” on April 2, 2026, three years after her second album “Guts”. This new album is set to release on June 12, 12 a.m. Eastern Time. Alongside the announcement of Olivia’s new album, she also announced her debut single on the album “Drop Dead,” which was released on April 17, 2026. “Drop Dead” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with 10.7 million streams, making it the biggest debut of her career and the highest for a female artist in 2026.
Olivia Rodrigo first gained fame at seven years old, when she appeared in commercials, including one for Old Navy in 2010. Then, at 12 years old, she starred as an actor in the American Girl movie. In 2016, Rodrigo joined Disney and played a lead role in the hit television show Bizaardvark, along with her co-star Madison Hu. In 2019, Rodrigo appeared in “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” where fans first got to see her sing the viral song “All I Want.”

Rodrigo released her debut album, “Sour,” on May 21, 2021, while she was still a main cast member in “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series”. About four months before the release of “Sour,” Rodrigo released her single “Drivers License” on Jan. 8. Rodrigo’s debut single shattered global streaming records, including the Spotify record for most daily streams over a non-holiday song. It became the largest single-week streaming debut in Spotify history.
Two years after Rodrigo’s debut album, she released her second album called “Guts,” and like “Sour,” the album quickly rose to the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
Lucinda Keenan, a freshman, talks about her opinion on the first single from the upcoming album Drop Dead.
“I think it was good. I was kind of expecting more, but it was still good. I think the song was very European core from the music video, and I really liked that,” she said. “I’ve been listening to her since her ‘Driver’s License’ came out, and I really hope it’s like her old albums because that’s what I fell in love with.”
Fans have different predictions on what her next album will sound like and what it will be about. Some believe it will be about Louis Partridge and their relationship, while others think it may be about her relationship with him. Rumors say they broke up around Dec. 2025, five months before the third album was announced, leading fans to think Olivia began working on it shortly after the breakup.
“I think this album is going to be a really fun, poppy album and not really sad because I feel like she wrote it when she was in the relationship with Louis,” Annelise Dehn, senior, said.
“You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love” is coming out on June 12, and the album is available for pre-order and pre-save on Spotify or the Official Olivia Rodrigo store. The upcoming album is highly anticipated, due to the major successes of her first two albums.
“I am very excited for this new album,” Kendall Holt, sophomore, said. “I am going to need to set like three hours aside once the album is released to lock in and listen to the whole album completely.”
