WAIT A CLOCK TICK!
Wicked: For Good was released in theaters on Nov. 21, 2025, a full year since the first movie made its debut. Wicked is one of the many Broadway musicals to successfully turn into a movie. The film also had many viral moments, like Dorothy’s special appearance, and Glinda and Elphaba’s fight.
Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB, two rating systems used by viewers and professional critics to score movies, say the movie was “well-done.” Although the first movie received higher ratings by 17%, the second movie is still rated considerably high. Rotten Tomatoes officially released its ratings; Wicked: For Good received a 71% score from professional critics and a 93% score from the audience.
“I loved it. I thought it was the perfect conclusion,” said Ellie McDonald. “I enjoyed watching Ariana Grande portray Glinda. My favorite part was the ending, when Glinda and Elphaba were singing ‘For Good.’”
Despite positive ratings and reviews, some say the movie was simply not enjoyable, weak, and undeveloped. Dionar Hidalgo, a tomatometer critic, wrote, “The film’s rushed storytelling and overexplained mythology drain the magic. A loud, glossy, strangely joyless finale.” One critic from Rotten Tomatoes reported that the movie reminded him of America’s current political status, and another questioned why the franchise was even popular.
Madison Cherrington, freshman, watched the movie at Kingstown Theater one day after it was released. She described the movie as fast-paced and rather irritating.
“I didn’t like certain scenes or some of the acting. I thought the chemistry was off, and most characters just annoyed me,” she explained. “I was more emotional while watching the second movie than the first, but the first was definitely a better production.”
If you enjoy musicals and want to see a production, or have been waiting for the conclusion, then we, along with many other students at West Po, highly recommend watching part two of the hilarious and heart-warming ending to this classic music saga.
