Ms. Katie Prible was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. She teaches Psychology, Sociology, World History 2 and AP Human Geography. Ms. Prible has spent her three year teaching career at West Po.
Growing up, Ms. Prible didn’t always want to be a teacher. Ms. Prible attended Ithaca College in central New York and was a political science major. After college, she moved to D.C. and worked on Capitol Hill for her local congressman from Buffalo, New York. She then applied to George Washington University, getting her Master’s Degree in Political Management.
“When I decided to go into teaching, social studies kind of seemed like a natural fit coming from politics and government,” Ms. Prible said.
Ms. Prible first began teaching at St. Luke’s Day School for preschool, but after COVID, she started working at Carl Sandburg as a long-term substitute due to the teacher shortage. She then decided that teaching was what she wanted to pursue, so she completed all the core requirements needed to become a teacher at a higher level.
“I very quickly learned that I wanted to work with older students,” she said.
Ms. Prible enjoys working at West Po because she enjoys teaching students at a higher level, and she has the benefit of working in a school near her children.
“I started teaching middle school and high school because my kids were a little bit older and I wanted to work in the schools that my children were in,” she said.
Despite being relatively new to teaching, Ms. Prible has enjoyed each year of teaching at West Po. She says that she loves that even if students aren’t always excited to come to class, they still get through it no matter the challenges or setbacks they face. By the end of each year, the classroom begins to have a sense of community.
“People are happy to leave for the summer,” said Ms Prible. “It’s always a little sad to leave the classroom, and you hope to see some of those smiling faces next year.”
