Mr. Tim Stuecheli, also known as Coach Stuke, is a physical education teacher for 9th and 10th grade. This is his 3rd year teaching at West Po, he likes to refer to it as his “junior year”. In total, he’s been teaching for 19 years.
One of his favorite aspects of teaching is watching his students understand concepts and grow as people, and seeing them interact with one another.
“I was originally in information systems technology, more specifically, computers. I worked on micro computing and web design so I could build a computer from the ground up, but my mom was telling me I should go work in coaching because I was a basketball referee, and that I like working with kids, so I should be a teacher,” he said.
He attended NOVA Community College and earned his associate’s degree in computing, then went on to George Mason, where he completed his degree in health and physical education. As well as wanting to be a teacher, he also strived to be a coach. He started as an assistant basketball coach at Justice High School in 2014.
“I chose to work at West Potomac because it was one of my top lists of schools to come to, and I wanted to work at, so I kind of lucked out. When I retire, I would like to live by the beach because I’ve always loved it there and I love going there.”
When he retires, Mr. Stuecheli hopes to live somewhere by the shore. He used to love going there as a kid, so he shares how he hopes to live there sometime after he retires.
“Throughout my career, I’ve encountered many students who have had some issues at home. This made me realize how much I really wanted to help kids, so that’s what made me want to become a teacher.”
