Ms. Leah Biwott is a long- term substitute teacher, subbing for Mr. Promen. This month is her third month subbing for US/VA History, World History and Government classes. It is also her first time as a teacher ever. She attended Dickinson College and earned degrees in International Studies and Japanese. While at Dickonson College, she ran track and field where she was the team captain for two years.
“It was really fun. I ran the heptathlon and the pentathlon. They’re terribly long events,” Ms. Biwott remarked.
Ms. Biwott stays active, even after college. In her free time, she likes going on runs. She will be coaching track & field starting in the spring. She also recently started getting into CrossFit.
“I’m competing in a HYROX competition in March.”
Ms. Biwott grew up here in Alexandria and is a West Po alumna. Her strongest subjects are either History or English, and her weakest subject is math. Her favorite song at the moment is “Buck,” by Nina Simone.
Ms. Biwott’s advice to her favorite grade to teach, seniors, is not to take high school drama too seriously because it won’t matter at all later in life. Although she hasn’t been here long, she is enjoying her time at West Po as a long-term sub.
“I really like teaching here, and it’s been really fun.”
