Feb. 24, the Boys Basketball team played their last game of the season against Edison. It was a tough matchup which came down to the final minutes as the score ended 54-62. The opposing teams point guards had an exceptional game outshooting the Wolverines and scoring the majority of the points for the team. The game was well attended with many Wolverine supporters showing up even though the game was a 30 minute drive away. Each team went head to head where Edison gained a big lead of 13 before the end of the half. Fans believed it was over, but West Po slowly started shortening the distance, until it was a two point game. Both sides of the crowd were fiery as they cheered hard for their teams. The bleachers shook under the stamping of spectators’ feet with passionate cheers from both crowds. However, the Wolverine’s luck ran out as they weren’t able to convert our final attacks to win the game.
Junior Zaven Deichman, a supporter in the student section during the game said, “That was the best game I’ve seen in my three years at West Po and there have been a lot of good games.”
Even though the Wolverine’s season came to an early close after coming up short in the regional finals, they had a great season overall. They won for instance against Lake Braddock who finished third in the region with a record of 21-8. The game ended 65-63 with West Po taking the win after being behind almost the whole game. However, when the Wolverines played Lake Braddock again later in the season, we fell short in an overtime loss losing 50-53. Both games were intense showing just how talented our 2025-2026 Varsity basketball team was.
“We had a really competitive team this year and I think the ending to the season doesn’t really reflect that,” shooting guard Jack Coulter said.
With the season over, several seniors will be moving on next year. Seven seniors are departing: Iverson Adomako, guard; Javonte Wanzer, point guard; Max Tuttle, Forward; Keadon Hopper, guard and forward; Griffin Melley, Forward; Brendan Forti, guard; and Micheal Webster, a forward. Four out of the seven departing were starters which included Max Tuttle, who scored 24 in the last game against Edison. It also includes Iverson Adomako and Javonte Wanzer, who were two key scorers on the team. With this many impactful players leaving the team, it will be critical to fill the gaps with new talent.
