The West Po Wire has had a spotify list for a while but barely any musical stories as of late. To broaden our music horizons, here is a list of concerts coming to the DMV area in the back end of September.

Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, and Busta Rhymes: NY State Of Mind Tour – Sep 16 – Jiffy Lube Live, Bristow, VA

 

Wu-Tang Clan is a New York music group formed in Staten Island, in 1992. Its members include RZA, GZA, ODB, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa, and Cappadonna. Member ODB sadly passed away in 2004 due to a heart attack at the age of 35. Wu-Tang Clan are regarded as a highly influential group in hip hop, helping to popularize and develop the East Coast hip hop and hardcore hip hop styles. There most famous songs include but are not limited to, “Protect Ya Neck,”“C.R.E.A.M,” “Triumph,” “Method Man,” “Bring The Ruckus,” and many more tracks by every artist in the group and the entire group’s discography. 

 

Nas is an artist from Crown Heights, New York. Rooted in East Coast hip hop, and regarded as one of the greatest and most influential rappers of all time, Nas joins other incredible artists at this show. Nas’s most famous tracks include “Nas Is Like,” “NY State of Mind,” “If I Ruled the World,” and “Oochie Wally.” Nas’s debut album “Illmatic (1994),” received universal acclaim upon release, and is considered to be one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time

 

Busta Rhymes is a New York artist widely considered one of the greatest lyricists and rappers ever.  His breakout performance was as a feature on A Tribe Called Quest’s classic track “Scenario.” His most popular tracks include “I Know What You Want,” “Break Ya Neck,” and “Don’t Cha.” He has received 12 Grammy Award nominations for his work, making him one of the most-nominated artists without winning. Busta Rhymes was an original member of Leaders of the New School, a group that attracted national attention when they opened on tour for Public Enemy. His breakout performance was as a feature artist on A Tribe Called Quest’s track “Scenario.” 

 

The NY State Of Mind tour was selected because every facet of New York hip hop and culture has been spread and celebrated throughout the world, making New York one of the most influential places of all time. These collections of artists are responsible for a lot of the influence on culture from New York culture. Korey Everett has described this concert as “A collection of legends i’m excited about.”

 

Elton John – Sep 24 – Nationals Park, Washington, DC

 

Elton John is a british artist commonly nicknamed the Rocket Man after his 1972 hit single of the same name. John has led a commercially successful career as a solo artist since the 1970s, having released 31 albums since 1969. John is acclaimed by critics and musicians, particularly for his work during the 1970s, and his lasting impact on the music industry. Throughout his career, John has sold 100 million singles worldwide, making him one of the biggest selling music artists of all time. He has had 57 top 40 hits in the United States, second only to Elvis Presley in total, with 27 of these hitting the top ten and nine reaching number one. His most popular songs include “Tiny Dancer,” “Rocketman,” “Your Song,” “Bennie and The Jets,” and more.

 

Elton John is one of the most influential artists of all time who creates beautiful music I feel like everyone can enjoy. 

 

Lil Nas X – Long Live Montero – Sep 25 – The Anthem, Washington, DC

 

Lil Nas X is a Georgian Artist known for his long list of hit songs, outgoing personality, and incredible amount of controversies. He rose to prominence with the release of his country rap single “Old Town Road”,which achieved viral popularity in early 2019 before climbing music charts internationally and becoming diamond certified. He’s had an incredibly successful run musically from 2019-2022 and looks to never stop with other hits such as “INDUSTRY BABY,” “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name),” “THAT’S WHAT I WANT,” “Rodeo,” “Late To Da Party,” and “Panini,” showing his ongoing relevance and large amount of talent. With Elton John also in DC you can expect an appearance of one of them at one or both of each other’s shows, since they have a popular song together.

 

Abdur Rahman describes Nas X as “An interesting artist to say the least.. I wonder what the set is gonna look like.”

 

Kevin Gates and Morray – Big Lyfe Tour – Sep 27 – Echostage, Washington, DC

 

Kevin Gates is an artist from Baton Rouge known for his popular songs “Big Gangsta,” “Me Too,” “Really Really,” and “2 Phones.” His debut studio album, Islah, released in January 2016 and peaked at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart. Prior to Islah, Gates also released a number of mixtapes, including Stranger Than Fiction, By Any Means, and Luca Brasi 2, all of which peaked in the top 40 on the Billboard 200 chart. Kevin Gates is seen by some as a good artist with multiple hits to his name. 

 

Morray is an American artist from Fayetteville, North Carolina who received widespread recognition in 2020 with his debut single “Quicksand.” Following the single, he received co-signs from fellow North Carolina rappers J. Cole and DaBaby. On May 14, Morray was a guest feature on J. Cole’s album “The Off-Season,” on the song “My Life,” with 21 Savage. The song debuted at number two on the Hot 100, becoming his highest charting and best performing song. Following his newfound popularity and fame, Morray released his debut mixtape “Street Sermons.” Morray is an up and coming genre blending artist with multiple cosigns to his name.
