Here we are on February 2nd and the results of Groundhog Day are in. Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog, for 2024 didn’t see his shadow meaning that there will be more spring instead of winter this year.

Groundhog day is a day where the groundhog chosen comes out of its burrow and if it sees its shadow, it will go back in the burrow for six more weeks of winter. However if the groundhog does not see its shadow, then spring will come early.

Some fellow West Potomac High School students and staff were asked what they thought was going to be chosen a couple days before the holiday and these were the results!

“I think there will be more spring,” Mason Hopper, senior, said.

“I think spring, I really want it to be spring,” Ms. Pavanne Veltman, Spanish teacher, said. (Staff Member)

“I hope for more spring but probably more winter,” Ava Manzo, freshman, said.

“More spring,” Sami Barka, junior, said.

Four of the five people interviewed knew it was going to be more spring and were correct. The groundhog did not see its shadow on February 2nd and that means spring will come early this year.
