Color a Smile, a nationwide club with a chapter here at West Po, brings joy to communities by collecting and distributing handmade coloring pages to those who are in need of a smile.
Megan Greer, geometry teacher and club sponsor, said, “…my role is to support and mentor the talented executive board that runs the club’s day-to-day operations. I am here to facilitate their success and ensure the club’s mission thrives.”
The club is affiliated with an organization that started in New Jersey. After each meeting, the club members collect the coloring pages, which they then mail to the organization. The organization then gathers all the pages and distributes tens of thousands of drawings every month to senior citizens, U.S. troops overseas, and other individuals in need of a smile. The school club would love to distribute the coloring pages out into the local community in the future.
“I believe this club creates a positive impact on two fronts,” Ms. Greer said. “First, our coloring pages bring joy and support to the places they are sent. Second, and just as important, the club fosters a positive and engaging environment for the students involved. I find it deeply rewarding to facilitate a space where students can contribute meaningfully to the community while building a strong, supportive peer group.”
This club is made up of all types of diversity and ages. Anyone can join.
